Reading: The students have been working on making connections to books. Instead of making them as a class, we are slowly starting to make them individually. The students are working on making sure there is evidence from the story that their connection
Math: We have been looking at fractions for the past couple of weeks. The students have had a harder time understanding what a fraction really means, but as the weeks have gone by, they have really begun to understand that wholes can change and fractions are parts of wholes. When looking at a fraction, we have been discussing how the top number (numerator) tells us the part we have colored or the part we have, while the bottom number (denominator) tells us the number of total equal parts.
Math Facts: The students have been doing so well on their math facts. Please continue to practice wtih flash cards and as well as using the Xtra Math website.
Science: We are wrapping up our unit on weather. For these last couple weeks, the students will be working on a culminating book on severe weather. The students had a chance to research 4 different kinds of severe weather and will be writing about what is the severe weather, what causes the type of severe weather, and some safety tips for when the severe weather occurs.
Writing: We are slowly wrapping up our non-fiction writing unit. The students have been having lots of fun writing different non-fiction stories to teach about the things they are passionate about. Some have been writing about things they like and have been researching to teach others about it as well.
Superstar of the Week: Our Superstar of the week this next week will be Detrell. We can't wait to learn more about him!!
