Math: We started a new Unit this past week. We are now focusing on different geometry topics (points, line segments, parallel lines), but we will still continue to learn and review two-digit addition and our math facts. The students have done a lot better on their math facts since adding the extra minute, but during the test, I still noticed a lot of students using their fingers and number lines. My fear is that the extra minute is giving students the opportunities to use these tools and they are passing the tests without actually memorizing the facts. Please continue to practice math facts EVERY night.
Science: Since we finished our social studies unit on Colonial America, we have now gone back to science. This quarter, we will be studying sound. It is a short unit and the students have already learned that sound is made from vibrations. We also made kazoos to illustrate this point. Hopefully the noise was kept at a minimum when they brought those home because it definitely was not when all the students were trying their kazoos at once in the classroom!
Writing: We are fully into our comic book unit for writing. The students LOVE it. We have been using different drawing books to aide us in our illustrations and the students have really enjoyed that aspect. We are also reinforcing fiction storytelling, not only through our narratives, but now also through our drawings and dialogue.
Superstar of the Week: Our superstar of the week is Alex this upcoming week.
