Math: We are slowly moving into 2-digit addition. Please read through the homework that is coming home very carefully. The first method we learn is counting up with our number grids. The second method we learn to solve these problems is the partial-sums method. For many of us, it will not make any sense at first, but please work with your child at home at practicing this method. I know it will be easier to simply have them "carry the 1", but the partial-sums method is really trying to teach them the concept as to why we would "carry the 1" in the first place. In the partial-sums method, the students would first add the tens, and then the ones.
Social Studies: We are finishing off our Social Studies unit for the quarter. This past week, we discussed different colonial leaders and what it means to be a leader. We will be going to the Mahomet Grand Prairie Museum to learn more about colonial America. We will also be celebrating Thanksgiving/colonial America the day before we go on Thanksgiving break.
Writing: We had the opportunity to go into the computer lab to actually write some comics. The students are doing very well in trying to make their comics make sense and also in trying the different writing styles and features a comic book/graphic novel has to off
