Hello everyone!
This week our class, along with Mrs. Meyer's 3rd graders, went to the Champaign County Courthouse! In order to get inside, we had to go through a metal detector. Then we got to sit in the public seating section of a courtroom. In there we learned about the roles of police officers, Court Clerks, and the County Circuit Clerk. The students listened really well, were respectful to the adults, and asked some great questions. After the courtroom, we watched a video about Abraham Lincoln. When Lincoln was a lawyer, he traveled to Champaign County Courts twice a year. Another cool fact is that part of the building we went in is over 100 years old. Overall, this was a great learning experience and it connected to our unit on the 3 branches of government. Also, thank you chaperons for all your help!
Have a great weekend!
