Happy Summer! Thanks so much for a wonderful school year. I didn't get a chance to post on the last day of school, but thought you might want to see a slideshow I made for the students documenting our year together. Have a great summer!

Sorry for the late notice, but there are NO uniforms for the last two days of school. We didn't get a chance to watch the announcements today and I didn't find out until just now. Thanks!
Hello everyone! First off, thank you for everyone who was able to come to the technology presentations. The students loved having you and being able to teach you about computer skills. It was quite a success and I was very proud of how hard the students worked. I hope you all learned something :) Additionally, I want to thank you all for a wonderful semester! I appreciate all the support from the parents and students. I have enjoyed getting to know every student and help them learn. I have learned so much and am so grateful for this opportunity that I had here at Kenwood. If you didn't hear, I have a 1st grade teaching position in McHenry IL for the upcoming school year. I am really excited for this new adventure! Thank you for your generous gifts today. I felt so cared for and am so much more prepared for my first year as a teacher. Thank you again! :) Miss Sievers Hello everyone!
Tomorrow, Tuesday May 12th, our 3rd graders and Mrs. Meyer's 3rd graders have put together presentations on different technological skills. We want to invite you to come and learn from our students! It'll be in our room, room 34, from 12:30pm to 1:00pm. Please stop by the office and get a visitor sticker and then come on down! It is going to be great and we would love to see you! Have a great night! Miss Sievers This past week students have been working on Scratch. We have been working on fractions on number lines and solving number line mysteries. Students are creating a number line mystery on Scratch. We will be presenting on Tuesday! Ask your child to show you his or her project! They have been working really hard and their creativity has been shining through!
This upcoming Monday and Tuesday, we will have state testing (PARCC) again. We have been doing practice tests the past couple of weeks and the students have really hung in there. We will be taking our tests from 8:15-9:30 and 10:00-11:15 on Monday and 8:15-9:30 on Tuesday. If you need to drop off something for your child or plan to visit, please leave the item(s) in the office or come visit at a different time. I will not be allowed to let anyone into our classroom while the students are testing. I have tried not to put too much emphasis or pressure onto these tests. The students know that the test does not define who they are and they are only going to do their best. We have discussed how the test may be tricky at times, but they are smarter than the test and will not succumb to the tricks. :) During this week, please:
Because of testing, Monday they will only have 10 minutes of reading and practicing math facts for homework. Tuesday they will have reading, math facts, and a spelling practice sheet. Then the rest of the week will go back to normal. Thanks for all your support! Have a great weekend! Miss Sievers Hello everyone!
This week our class, along with Mrs. Meyer's 3rd graders, went to the Champaign County Courthouse! In order to get inside, we had to go through a metal detector. Then we got to sit in the public seating section of a courtroom. In there we learned about the roles of police officers, Court Clerks, and the County Circuit Clerk. The students listened really well, were respectful to the adults, and asked some great questions. After the courtroom, we watched a video about Abraham Lincoln. When Lincoln was a lawyer, he traveled to Champaign County Courts twice a year. Another cool fact is that part of the building we went in is over 100 years old. Overall, this was a great learning experience and it connected to our unit on the 3 branches of government. Also, thank you chaperons for all your help! Have a great weekend! Miss Sievers Hello everyone!
Due to the chance of severe weather tomorrow, Math Night has been cancelled for April 7th. It has been rescheduled to April 23rd. The first couple of days back have been great :) We're learning about poetry in writing. We will be learning more about fractions in the upcoming weeks in math. We also have begun a science unit on forces and energy. Have a great evening! Miss Sievers I hope everyone had a lovely and restful Spring Intercession. Can you believe we only have one quarter left??? It has definitely flown by!
We have lots of things planned for the rest of our school year, so please check back periodically to stay up to date with the happenings in our classroom and at Kenwood. Those of you that were not able to make Parent Teacher Conferences, I have placed report cards in your child's mailbox. Should you want to set up a time to meet, please call the school or email me. For the next 4 weeks, our student teacher, Miss Sievers will be fully taking over the classroom. I will still be helping to plan lessons and checking in with the students and the classroom, but she will be fully teaching for the next month. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. If you have any questions during the next 4 weeks, please feel free to contact me or Miss Sievers. We will be in constant communication with one another and with you. Let's have a great 4th quarter! I look forward to finishing off this school year strong! :) The next few updates on here will most likely be from Miss Sievers, so we will be sure to sign the end of our posts. Hope see see or talk with you all soon! Ms. Maa This upcoming week on Thursday and Friday, we will be holding Parent Teacher Conferences. Please find your times below:
