Reading: We are still working on connecting to stories that we read. We are trying to emphasize how connections help us better understand the story. The students are eager to try and make connections of their own! Many of them are doing it when books they are reading in reading group.
Math: We finished up with thinking about complements of 10 and extending those facts. We have been learning different strategies to try and help with learning math facts. With all the different strategies we have learned, most of the kids should be learning their facts faster.
Math Facts: Please continue to practice math facts with your student. I am not sure how else to stress the importance of knowing their facts without using fingers or any other tool to help.
Science: We learned more about how we get rain and precipitation through the water cycle. We learned a new song and it has really helped them to remember what evaporation, condensation, and precipitation means. Ask your child to sing it for you! (They actually hate the song becuase it gets stuck in their heads!! :P)
Writing: The students are slowly finishing up their first non-ficiton books. The kids have been very independent in knowing what to write and if they don't, they have chosent to check out books at the library! I think this unit is a great start to different types of research projects and papers they will have to do in the future!
Superstar of the Week: Our Superstar of the week this next week will be Alexandria. We can't wait to learn more about her!!
