Reading: We have been practicing our "Daily 5" which consists of Read to Self, Read to Someone, Word Work (practicing our spelling words in different ways), Work on Writing, and Listening to Reading. So far, we have only introduced the first 4 of our Daily 5. The students have been working hard on staying on task and we are up to over 50 minutes! Our goal is to be able to stay on task for 60 minutes. We are almost there! As the students are doing these different activities, I have been giving their reading tests and will eventually teach reading groups.
Math: We looked at the number grid and looked for different patterns. Many students noticed the patterns going up and down and also diagonally. We have been practicing different puzzles where the students have had to fill in the missing numbers of a piece of the number grid. We have also been continuing in our review of money and time. If your child is struggling with either of these skills, please continue to practice and reinforce at home. At this point, they should be able to tell time to the 5 minutes and be able to count all coins in different combinations.
Science: We finished learning about the honeybee this week. We discussed the 3 different bees found in a hive: the queen bee, the drones, and the workers. We also talked about the bees life cycle from the egg to the larva, to the pupa, and then finally the adult. Next week, we will start learning about the butterfly. We already have had 7 caterpillars join our classroom and they have turned into their chrysallis. We can't wait to meet our butterflies!
Writing: We published our first set of books this week and were able to share them with our 4th grade reading buddies. We will begin our fiction writing unit next week. The students have really enjoyed our writing time and we have had many different types of stories in our classroom.
Superstar of the Week: Our Superstar of the Week for next week will be Trinity. Please bring in pictures and different things to share with the class so we can get to know you better!
